Exploratory Writing 8A

The post-internet art PDF brought up a good point talking about how our world is based on technology, how we use it, how we’ve adapted and how those outcomes shape art today. I find it helpful that they structured their findings and research this way. It was interesting to read about art before the internet, what that looked like and how those practices are very different from mine today. I don’t even think of recycling art from my past that I’ve made, but I do understand recycling ideas/concepts from the past.

Another idea that relevantly new to our world is the concept of sharing art. A concept that we knew of but nothing to this degree of sharing it worldwide for anyone to view and comment on. Diving a bit deeper there is this positive and negative feedback that you don’t get in a museum or at an art show. But with the idea that people can give negative comments and feedback with the anonymity of a profile photo is something that people today are still trying to navigate.

Then in part two where it mentions after the internet, well I think it will always be around so what does art look like with the comprehension of the internet, and are artists going back to practices before the internet or how are they moving forward? I also think that it’s interesting looking at how museums have navigated this internet world by creating online 3D tours and AR and VR experiences for people to see exhibitions during the Coronavirus. So in this case the interest is helpful to view art.

The online article focuses on how museums are coping with this new challenge. How do they stay open and still engage an audience? How can an exhibition that is hands-on be turned into something online that makes the viewer feel a similar feeling? Also, how does one view an object that is 3D? The museum can only take so many photos of objects and upload them online. Curating an exhibition is one thing, but uploading images takes a lot of time and energy. I think that this is hard to do, especially since going to a museum is an experience in itself.
